Indians in Chicago can be divided into two groups. Those who attended the Desi fest and those who did not. While the first group will go through this article and cherish the moments of fun they had last on Father’s Day, the second group has a news – that you just missed one of the biggest and most entertaining gathering of Desis in Chicago, and a lesson – Do not miss it the next time.
The action began in the morning at 11 in the lush green set-up of Busse Woods Forest Reserve. As the day passed the crowd only kept on increasing.
There were bollywood songs, dances, several types of races and events like ‘tire chalao’ celebrating the true spirits of a desi mela. And then there was an awesome offering of desi foods, which got finished within minutes.
Dance performance by kids, choreographed separately by Hina Gupta and Bhawna Sharma were the ones to attract maximum cheers from the crowd, besides other artistic performances by Gurmeet Marhas, Anju Sarda, Sonia Agarwal and Megha Mathur.
Melodious Singing by Shikha, Punita and Shree Mohanty took the listeners back to the Bombay Talkies.
Events like Saas vs Bahu tug of war and ladies arm wrestling were big draw for the ladies. Special events such as Kisme Kitna hai Dum and Bapu no. 1 were organized to mark Fathers’ day.
The elderly and the kids, the ladies and the gents, they all had fun in Desi style. With participation fee as nominal as $1 and free food and entertainment, team Desi Junction delivered what they had promised, once again. Here are some selected pictures for you to re-live the fun.
